Seniors in the Making

You know, it's intriguing how the human brain functions; most would think it is the heart that keeps us alive. But what good is the heart without its mate—the brain! I'm sure most of us would have gone through those very confusing phases in our lives when all we want to do is get older—work, travel, and eventually get married and have our very own family to love and cherish. We also would have envisioned a world where everything is tailor-made just for us, after all what would our parents know about raising children, right? That's right, though we wouldn't want to admit it, the thought has definitely crossed our minds that had we been in our parents' shoes, we would have done such a fantastic job of raising a family.

Now we are adults—older, and we now wish that we could be that child all over again, relive those wonderful moments with our parents and siblings, even though the journey has not always been a handsome one. There are times we wish we had just listened to what our parents had to say and given it a try to see the world from their eyes; it is definitely true that they have seen more of this world than we have, and therefore have wiser means of dealing with situations. But let's not be so harsh on ourselves now; let bygones be bygones. What we can do in our time is make a difference to generations to come and setting an example for them to follow—Do unto your elders as you would have your children do unto you.

Well, that's a good place to begin. When we respect our elders, not limited to our families, our children who are ever so observant, are watching your every move, for example, how we deal with our elders; we treat them well, our younger generation takes the hint. We all are listed in the register of "Seniors in the Making" and there is no escaping. Yes, we are probably gonna be living in a nursing home. Alone. We would want our children to treat us with love and respect, don't we? No matter where we try to hide, we most definitely are gonna wrinkle; hopefully, all those creams we use to conceal crows-feet and whatever other feet and arms, might slow the process. Reality: No age-defying cream is ever gonna stop ageing, no matter what anybody claims. Why not just age gracefully as cliche it may sound. And "gracefully" doesn't quite mean "looking" beautiful; it means "being and feeling" beautiful; get the drift?

You can't help getting older, but you don't have to get old. ~George Burns
