Weathering Woes
The weather has fascinated me in more ways than I can fathom. It can twist my mind or it can soothe it. A bright, sunny morning cheers my senses; an overcast sky can make my chin touch my toes. Sunny weather, though scorching at times, lifts my spirits—I feel elated, and the sheer feeling keeps me going. My mood-swings can oscillate to its highs and lows; blame it on the weather if you please. When I wake, I long to see the sun shining through that slit between the window curtains in my room. This morning it was utter disappointment—it was a wet, slimy, rainy morning. Everything around felt lifeless—dull—cold—dead, as though life had been sucked out clean from within them. Woke up lazy and sleep-sick; didn't feel motivated enough to head to work. Alas! Duty calls, it always does.
It sounds pathetic, but it isn't as bad; am I glad we have soulful music to fall back on. The different genres cater to our fickle, moody selves. A peppy, foot-tapping number to get you over the fence, country rock and whatever agrees with your mood at the moment, just to lift your spirits. Driving within the city can be adventurous, interesting, painful, hectic, boring and lot more adjectives, and each of us adapt to the situation at hand differently. Driving in the early hours of the morning is something I cherish. It's an absolute pleasure—I'm in my car and music playing on the stereo; nothing beats that feeling!
The distance from home to office is about 15 km. It's odd that though the distance remains the same, somehow the drive seems longer and totally stretched out in the evenings—the trail of unceasing traffic, especially the indecisive pedestrians, bikers, scooterists, the hurried cabs, the darn autorickshaws, and what not. Seems like I'm driving through an unidentified planet altogether! But what soothes the pain in these moments is the soulful music playing on Radio Indigo. Aw! It's actually more than music; there are oodles of tidbits for the mind as well—there is news and views. Extremely enriching. I can't imagine driving without music; it's the first thing I tune into the moment I'm in the car.
It's the weather's pastime playing pranks on us; little does it know that good, soulful music overrides it anytime. The next time the weather decides to act smart, remember to turn on that music.
